Goodrich-By a 5-0 vote on Monday night, the village council moved forward with a proposal to extend the village sewers west about 200 feet along the north side of Hegel Road just east of Shuman Drive.
The extension, proposed to the council by Hanuman Marur, of Flint-based Trans Environmental Engineers, Inc., was for Future Holding, LLC of Flint.
The estimated cost of the sewer expansion project is about $60,000, funded by Future Holdings.
Marur said the sewer extension is needed for a proposed four-building apartment complex to be constructed on 4.18 acres north of Hegel Road.
Each two-level building will have 12 apartments’six on the upper level and six on the ground level. The structures will each be about 7,410 square feet and when completed include 48 apartments total. The plan also includes parking spaces for up to 160 vehicles and 30 feet of green space between buildings.
Jakkie Sidge, village administrator, said calls for apartments are common.
‘It’s a great idea, people call looking for places to rent in the village all the time,? she said. ‘There will be a public hearing on the project and a council vote. The village was approved for 1,200 sewer units and even with the new apartments plus new homes in subdivisions, we’ll be left with 259 units.?
The next step for the project will be a site plan to the planning commission. The property is currently zoned very low density residential and they will be asking for medium density residential, added Sidge.
