Groveland Township firefighter injured, pets missing in house fire

Groveland Twp.-Township firefighters, along with Brandon and Atlas Township firefighters, responded to a house fire on Groveland Road west of M-15 at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday.
When firefighters arrived the log home was fully engulfed.
‘Flames were coming from the top of the home when we arrived,? said Steve McGee, township fire chief. ‘A neighbor called and reported the fire. The house is about 1,000 feet off the road and due to the overcast skies smoke was not detectable from a great distance. A blue sky would have been better to see smoke from a distance.?
No one was home at the time of blaze,, however, two family dogs that were in the home at the time of the fire are missing.
Seven-year veteran township firefighter Mike Traub, 31, suffered a fractured ankle while battling the blaze after an overhang along the side of the home fell on top of him.
‘He was waring an airpack at the time and that broke some of the fall. Other firefighters near Mike pulled him up.?
Traub was transported to Genesys Medical Center in Grand Blanc where he was treated and released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as of Tuesday afternoon.
