GMS principal considered for Ithaca superintendent

Goodrich Middle School Principal Paul Minns was one of six candidates considered by the Ithaca Schools Board of Education to be hired as superintendent for the central Michigan district.
However, following six open to the public superintendent interviews for the district top spot on April 15 and 17 in the Ithaca School’s Media Center, Minns was removed from consideration.
Carl Hartman of Kalamazoo-based Northstar Staffing was hired by the Ithaca Board of Education earlier this year to replace Superintendent Charles Schnetzler, who plans to retire June 30 after 10 years as the district’s chief.
‘Minns would have made a great leader for Ithaca’he’s a good man,? said Hartman. ‘We encouraged him (Minns) to apply for the job. However, he did not make it to the final three candidates due to his lack of experience as superintendent. Paul had a strong interview with the board.?
The Ithaca School District has a student enrollment of about 1,500 students and is located in central Gratiot County about 40 miles west of Saginaw. The district includes a senior/junior high school and two elementary schools. The district yearly budget is about $11 million.
Hartman expects a decision regarding the remaining three superintendent candidates to be made by April 24.
Minns did not return phone to The Citizen as of press time.
