Fantasy meets reality for young actors

Fantasy worlds of magic princesses meet the real world of high school in Notre Dame-Marist Academy’s ‘Mirror Image, A Real Enchanted Musical.?
‘It rocks ? it’s all unique and different,? said Hadley Bonello of Davisburg, who plays Gloria, a student running for class president. ‘It’s fun to watch. I’m the awesomeist person in it.?
She joins Clarkston students Lily McLean, Alex Leonowicz, Sarah Salome, Kyle Weaver, Garrett and Guilford Guthrie, Andrea Pangori, Ashley Palardy, and Emily Ridge, Austen Williams of Davisburg, Margaret Mitchel of Ortonville, and other classmates in the production.
‘The music is really good, lots of upbeat songs,? Mitchel said.
‘It has a good plot,? Bonello said. ‘You don’t know what’s coming up next.?
Brandon Dailey of West Bloomfield plays the Woodsman, whose journey to the real world through a magic mirror in pursuit of Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters results in chaos in the fairy-tale world.
‘All the stories get ruined because he’s not there to play his part,? said Ridge, who plays T.J., a character who always gets in trouble.
Pangori plays Danica, a student in the real world who helps the Woodsman, eventually.
‘She’s a realist, she doesn’t believe in fairy tales,? Pangori said.
Palardy plays Magda, Danica’s rival for class president.
‘Magda the villain. She’s totally evil,? Palardy said. ‘I get to freak out when I play her.?
The students attended dozens of practices, getting ready for the play, said parent volunteer Laura Pangori.
‘It is really amazing. These kids are not in Drama Club ? everyone is able to try out at Marist for their school musicals, sixth through eighth grade,? Laura said. ‘If the children do not make it for a character with lines, they are invited to be in the chorus, stage crew or helpers.?
Showtimes are 7 p.m., Nov. 13-14, and 2 p.m., Nov. 15, at the school, 1300 Giddings Road in Pontiac. All tickets are $8.
