Let it snow: Mt. Holly Ski Resort open for business

Kevin Sosnowski fits right in this winter with Mt. Holly’s atmosphere: a lot of snow, snowboarders, and skiers. With a name like his, it’s not surprising that Sosnowski spends his winters as a ski instructor at Mt. Holly which opened Nov. 24 for its 51st season.
Mt. Holly opened Nov. 19 last year, but had to close about a week later due to warm temperatures. The ski resort didn’t re-open until mid-December. This year skiers and snowboarders will get about a month head start on the hills, if the weather stays cold compared to last season, said Sosnowski.
‘The people that work here are all nice and funny. The whole atmosphere at Holly makes working not seem like work. It’s really a lot of fun.?
Mt. Holly has been enhanced more and more with every season. The ski resort now has 18 ropes with seven chair lifts, six rope tows, and two Wonder Carpets. The resort also includes a slope with a vertical drop of 350 feet, and high speed detachable quad lifts deliver skiers to the top of the hills. The ski area also has about 70 snow making machines, and grooming equipment. The resort also offers lounges and restaurants for breaks after hitting the hills.
On top of everything Mt. Holly had to offer in past seasons, this year they added ten new topgun snowguns. The snowguns line each slope at Mt. Holly and can transform 80 to 100 gallons of water to snow each minute. Ski and snowboard rentals are also new for this season, and the ticket lobby has been renovated for customers.
‘Mt. Holly is a place I can go to ride that’s close to home,? says Tyler Miller, 15, a snowboarder visiting Mt. Holly.
‘I come just about every day. If not, every other day. My friends and I all like to come together to hang out.?
Mt. Holly can generally stay open until-mid March. It is open through the week from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., and 9 a.m.-11 p.m. on weekends and holidays. It is located at 13536 South Dixie Highway, Holly. Mt. Holly offers activities for many different interests. They offer a PSIA member ski and snowboard school, and race leagues for adults and children.
