McLarty advances to state finals

After an impressive individuals regional varsity bowling competition in Grand Blanc last Friday, senior A.J. McLarty took 5th place, which advances him to the state finals next weekend.
Five varsity boy and girl bowlers from Oxford competed to try and get into the top 10 to advance, but McLarty’s 1,326 series was hard to beat.
Senior Brendan Wheeler totaled 1,262 at regionals, only missing the cut by three pins. Junior Tyler Heichel got off to a slow start, but was able to finish in 28th against the 13 other schools.
For the ladies, sophomore Ashlee High lead the way shooting 1,017 to finish 20th, and senior Amanda Tucker shot 968 for a 31st finish.
At the team regionals competition on Saturday, the boys fell one place short of making it to the state finals.
Although they shot games of 1,042, 1,039 and 1,000, the boys weren’t able to make it to third place and move on.
McLarty, Wheeler and Heichel once again made an outstanding effort.
The lady bowlers, on the other hand, were in third place coming out of their baker games, but slowed as the day wore on, finishing in 9th place.
High and Tucker lead the way with a 499 and 512 series.
Coach J.R. Lafnear said the coaches and parents of this first year team ‘couldn’t have asked for anything more or be any prouder of the effort and performance of our team.?
The team would like to thank Collier Lanes, the Balls-R-Us Pro-shop and the Oxford Athletic Boosters for all of their support throughout the season.
