Great Lakes Athletic Club

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner, so now is a great time to start getting ready at Great Lakes Athletic Club!
Whether your goal is to get toned for the beach, find something fun for the kids to do on summer break, or get both your mind and body in shape, Great Lakes has what you are looking for, conveniently located on Baldwin Road in Orion Township.
Beginning on June 12, GLAC will again offer their Summer Camp program for ages 5-12. Ten weeks of camp are available, with activities built around a weekly theme, such as Sports Around the World, ArtRageous and Roaming the Globe.
Campers will participate in indoor and outdoor games and sports, swimming, crafts, and team-building activities. Presenters will also be brought in to entertain and educate campers, with programs relating to the weekly themes.
All camp activities will take place at GLAC. Camp runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with pre-care offered from 8-9:30 a.m., and post-care offered from 4-5:30 p.m. Camp is open to both members and non-members, and kids can sign up for a day or a week at a time.
Early registration for camp will begin on April 1, when GLAC hosts an open house.
The April 1 Open House, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., is open to the public. Come enjoy a free workout and free rock climbing, and learn about all the great programs and amenities that GLAC has to offer.
The GLAC competitive swim team, the Great Lakes Navigators, will be open this summer to both members and non-members. Members will benefit from a reduced enrollment fee.
The Navigators will be coached by Paul Fairman, the Lake Orion varsity boys swim coach. The team has divisions for ages 6-8, 9-12 and 13-18.
Further information on the swim team can be obtained by contacting Melissa Dresbach, Aquatic Director.
In addition to its many programs, GLAC offers members use of a 7,000 square foot outdoor pool, which is 25 meters long and consists of six lap lanes. It also includes a diving well and open family swim area with zero depth entry.
Those who join GLAC are offered a 30-day money back guarantee, as well as access to free childcare, free fitness equipment orientation, over 80 group fitness classes per week, teen fitness classes, cardio and strength training equipment, free weights and an indoor track.
Other activities include basketball, racquetball and squash, circuit training, golf lessons, sports specific training, martial arts, specialty fitness classes, swim lessons and sports leagues.
A degreed and certified Personal Training staff is available to help members reach their fitness goals. Additional amenities include steam rooms and dry saunas in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
The club is also a great place to host a children’s birthday party, with various party options available.
Also located within GLAC is Cafe Vitality, serving healthy soups, sandwiches, salads, snacks, smoothies and specialty coffees and teas, as well as Schenden’s Spa.
Schenden’s Spa is owned by Dr. Michael Schenden, who also owns Schenden’s Spa on the Lake in Lake Orion, and Schenden’s Spa in Troy.
A satellite office of St. Joseph-Mercy Physical Therapy is located within the club as well.
GLAC’s Summer Program Book will be available in early May. Non-members can pick one up at the club, and it is also available online at www.greatlakesathleticclub.com.
