The 10th Annual Schrauger Memorial 5K and Fun Run will be held at Lake Orion High School on Nov. 19.
The Schrauger Memorial commemorates the lives of brothers Timothy and Josh, Lake Orion students who passed away in 2007. The 5K was originally started by the Lake Orion High School Cross Country team. Josh Schrauger was a team captain.
Since 2009, all proceeds have gone to Love INC of North Oakland County, which supports local families in need.
“They were both well-respected young men at the high school. I had great dreams for them, but the Lord has something different for them- for us,” said Vicki Schrauger, the boys’ mother.
The 2016 Memorial includes two events: a one-mile fun run and a 5K race/walk. The top three 5k walkers receive an award, in addition to age group awards for 5k runners.
“Families often participate together and contribute to the festive atmosphere of the event,” said family friend Diana Prainito.
“Elementary students run for free and there is typically a large contingent of Oakview, Scripps and Waldon Middle School students vying for the “Schrauger Cup”, awarded to the school with the most participants,” she said.
Participation for the event remains strong, with over 200 runners and walkers from the Lake Orion and Metro Detroit area expected to attend this years’ race.
In 2015, over $3,100 in proceeds were donated to Love INC.
Registration is now open at active.com; use the keyword “SCHRAUGER” in the search bar.
