A typical night swim turned deadly for an Oxford Lakes woman early Tuesday morning.
Oxford police and firefighters retrieved the body of 27-year-old Alison Wolcott from Oxford Lake around 2 a.m.
‘We’ve labeled it a drowning as of right now,? said Village Police Chief Mike Neymanowski.
The exact cause of death is undetermined pending the autopsy/toxicology report and follow-up investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Special Investigations, the chief noted.
Neymanowski said the woman’s father called police at about 1:25 a.m. because his daughter had gone out alone for a ‘night swim? in front of their property on Lakesedge Drive, which ‘was not unusual? for her, but did not return and could not be found.
At first, the chief said he searched the beach and waterfront areas, but nothing was discovered.
Then, using a neighbor’s pontoon boat, police and fire personnel searched the water along the shore, the chief said.
A short time later, Wolcott’s unconscious body was found about 40 feet from shore and under about 12 feet of water, according to Neymanowski.
A fire/rescue officer retrieved her and CPR was started.
CPR was administered all the way to POH Medical Center in Pontiac, but Wolcott was pronounced dead on arrival, the chief said.
Neymanowski estimated she had been in the water for ‘at least 45 minutes to an hour.?
