DA is a finalist in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) 2012 Video Contest.
‘We are one of five elementary school finalists out of the hundreds (of entries) that were submitted,? said DA Principal Joyce Brasington. ‘I was very happy for our students and our teacher.?
DA’s 58-second video can be viewed at www.actflvideocontest.org. It was made by Chinese teacher Min Liu and features approximately 80 second-graders.
‘They show us how learning a world language has become important in their lives,? Brasington explained. ‘The students talk about how they are more knowledgable and able to make more friends.?
‘These students have had Chinese instruction for 30 minutes every day since kindergarten,? she noted. ‘So, this is their third year (learning) Mandarin Chinese and it is amazing how they are able to express themselves using Chinese.?
If DA’s video wins the contest, the K-2 school will receive a $500 cash award, which Brasington said, ‘We would use to enhance our language program.?
In order to win, DA needs everyone reading this to visit www.actflvideocontest.org, register, login and vote.
Voting ends at midnight EST on Monday, Jan. 30, so don’t delay, vote today.
The contest is designed to help celebrate ‘Discover Languages? month in February, which is part of a broader public awareness campaign to bring media attention to the critical need for all students to have the opportunity to learn a second language.
