We all want our drinking water to be clear, clean and crisp, but how about award-winning and internationally-recognized?
Oxford Village residents will be proud to learn their water is once again considered all of those things.
Over the weekend, Oxford’s ground-pumped H2O took fourth place in the ‘Best Municipal Water 2012? category at the 22nd annual Berkley Springs International Water Tasting competition held in Berkley Springs, West Virginia.
‘I think it shows our investment in the new (water) treatment plant was well worth it,? said village Manager Joe Young. ‘We’ve got some of the best water in the country and in the world. It’s another advantage to living in Oxford.?
This is the second year in a row Oxford’s water has competed in the contest and the second year it received fourth place.
The village’s water scored 378 out of the possible 484 points that could have been awarded by the panel of 11 judges.
Oxford’s score was relatively good considering the water that earned the title ‘Best in the World? ? which came from Greenwood, British Columbia in Canada ? received 400 points.
St. Henry, Ohio earned the title of ‘Best in the USA? with 397 points.
Santa Ana, California and Independence, Missouri finished second and third, respectively.
Oxford did manage to beat out Lansing, Michigan, which claimed fifth place.
A total of 77 waters ? municipal, bottled, sparkling and purified ? from 20 U.S. states and nine foreign countries entered.
Among them were 32 municipal waters from 12 states, Canada and South Korea.
Oxford Village’s water system supplies approximately 1,400 customers.
Village groundwater is treated by a $2.5 million facility on S. Glaspie St. that went on-line in May 2009.
