Teacher Chris Williams? third grade class from Oxford Elementary visited the 468-acre Seven Ponds Nature Center in Dryden Township May 17.
Students received a hands-on lesson about all the various life forms that live in a pond by engaging in a little ‘pond dipping.?
Using long-handled nets, small jars and magnifying glasses, students behaved like scientists as they carefully fished out tapoles, frogs, crayfish, spiders and caddis flies from the pond.
Once out of the water, students identified and studied the organisms with great enthusiasm.
All of the tiny creatures were returned to the pond safe and sound.
Seven Ponds contains deep glacial lakes, ponds, marshes, fields, woodlands and prairie, all of which is home to a wide variety of plants and animals.
The center is located at 3854 Crawford Road in Dryden Township.
