Staff changes at village PD

Two full-time employees of the Oxford Village Police Department have resigned to pursue career opportunities elsewhere.
Police Chief Mike Neymanowski announced at last week’s council meeting that Officer Thad Lambiris and Dispatcher James Sommers had submitted their resignations.
Lambiris left to become a patrolman with the City of Warren’s police department, a job he started Sept. 4.
‘I was looking for a better opportunity for advancement,? he said.
Lambiris? law enforcement career began in Oxford in January 1999 when he was hired as a part-time officer with the joint township-village police department.
When that agency dissolved and the village started its own police force in February 2000, Lambiris was hired on and became a full-time officer nine months later.
‘I had a good time here,? he said. ‘It was a fun time.?
Sommers is moving on to become the afternoon security supervisor at the Mall at Partridge Creek, an open-air shopping mall currently under construction in Clinton Township and slated to open Oct. 18.
He too is leaving because his new job offers more opportunity for advancement and the ability to transfer if needed.
‘My fiancee’s finishing up with her teaching degree, so depending on where her job takes her, this gives me more opportunity to maybe move with her wherever she goes,? Sommers said.
Sommers started as a part-time dispatcher in September 2001 and became full-time in July 2006. He also served as code enforcement officer from November 2004 through July 2007. He plans to stay on with the village department as a part-time dispatcher and reserve officer.
Lambiris will be replaced by Officer Jeremy Gravis, who started with the department as a part-timer in July 2005.
Dispatcher Bridget Burke will replace Sommers. She’s been a part-timer with the agency since April 2000.
Gravis and Burke will be sworn in during the Sept. 12 village council meeting.
