Postal food drive nets 20K pounds for FISH

Just over 20,000 pounds. That’s how much food the annual Post Office drive, conducted by Oxford and Lake Orion mail carriers, collected Saturday for FISH.
‘Since we’re giving out between 10,000 and 11,000 pounds of food every month, this will last us two months,? said Val Cass, pantry coordinator for FISH.
‘It’s used to be the Post Office food drive gave us almost six months worth of food,? she noted.
Five years ago, the FISH pantry gave out 5,000 to 6,000 pounds in food on a monthly basis.
Unfortunately, Michigan’s poor economy has left more individuals and families in need of FISH’s services.
‘Now, at 10,000 and 11,000 (lbs.) it goes fast,? Cass said. ‘It just means that we have to buy a lot more (food).?
