Police believe alcohol was factor in fatal crash

Tragedy struck on Christmas Eve day as a 40-year-old Oxford woman died in a vehicular accident on N. Coats Rd.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash that claimed the life of Emily Zubalik at approximately 1:40 a.m., according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
Zubalik was driving north on N. Coats Rd., approaching Oakwood Rd., when she lost control of the 2007 Saturn Ion and ran off the road.
The vehicle struck a tree, rolled over onto its roof and came to a stop just south of Oakwood Rd.
Zubalik sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s department.
Michael Lucas, 19, of Oxford, was a passenger in the vehicle. He was transported by the Oxford Fire Department to McLaren Oakland hospital in Pontiac. He was listed in critical condition.
Both Zubalik and Lucas were wearing seatbelts.
The crash remains under investigation.
