The battle was messy and sticky, but when all the jelly and cream filling was finally cleared away, one team claimed victory while their opponents suffered indigestion.
Oxford’s hockey team took on the basketball team Saturday morning in a paczki eating contest sponsored by the local Meijer store.
Five icers squared off individually against five cagers to see who could eat the most paczkis in three minutes.
The hockey team won by devouring 18? of the calorie-filled Polish doughnuts in 15 minutes. The basketball team was a close second stuffing a combined 18 paczkis into their bloated bellies.
As a reward to both teams, Meijer donated $300 to Oxford Athletics.
Each icer and cager who participated received a special gift bag from Meijer containing a box of paczkis, a bottle of Pepto-Bismol, a packet of Tums, a can of Slim-Fast and a pack of hand wipes.
