Most people work just to put food on the table and a roof over their heads. But there are some folks out there who are fortunate enough to really enjoy their jobs because it’s their passion in life.
Whether a person fits into the former category or the latter, either way, it’s always nice to be appreciated. It feels good to hear a ‘thank you? or ‘good job? from a boss, a customer or in the case of two Oxford firefighters, a gentleman they rescued from a car wreck.
Metamora resident Rick Marshall stopped by Oxford Fire Station #1 on Sunday afternoon to personally thank firefighters/paramedics Kevin Snell and Mike Upshur for the fine emergency medical care they gave him on Sept. 12.
‘The guys came, dug me out and got me to the hospital,? he said.
Marshall’s truck rolled over at M-24 and Thomas Rd. He was heading south on M-24 when another vehicle coming off Thomas Rd. smashed right into him.
‘I did a couple of NASCAR donuts and then rolled over,? he said. ‘One of the bystanders gave me a 9.9 for execution, the other gave me a 9.8 for style.?
The roof of Marshall’s truck had to be cut away in order to extricate him. He was very grateful for the professional and compassionate care he received from Snell and Upshur.
‘I just wanted to say thanks,? Marshall said. ‘I appreciate their efforts. (Kevin) was keeping me calm, while Mike was trying to find a vein. They did good.?
Fortunately, the only injuries Marshall sustained were a couple of herniated discs in his neck.
