Hours upon hours of practice combined with a generous helping of natural talent led to four Oxford Middle School students performing in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association’s Honors Festival Concert Saturday at Brandon High School.
Emily Parrish (tuba), Emma Richmond (trumpet), Larissa Krueger (bass clarinet) and Makala Sutherland (alto saxophone) performed as part of the 118-member Junior High Honors Band.
‘The purpose of this day is to recognize the achievements of the outstanding young musicians from high school and junior high school instrumental music programs throughout this region,? said James Bronson, festival chairman and vice president of MSBOA District 3.
Students representing more than 60 schools spanning 25 districts performed at the festival.
‘Membership in the (honors) band is based on student performance at the MSBOA Solo and Ensemble Festivals and the recommendation of their teachers and band directors,? Bronson said.
Students spent all day rehearsing together, then peformed a polished concert that evening for family and friends.
