Old Man Winter has arrived!

After a blazing hot summer and an extremely mild fall, the party is officially over.
Old Man Winter blew into town on Wednesday, Dec. 26, dumping approximately 7-8 inches of fluffy white snow on the Oxford/Addison area.
Fortunately, the first major snowfall didn’t seem to have much of a negative impact.
DTE Energy’s website showed no power outages in Oxford or Addison, so everyone’s lights and heat are working just fine.
The Oxford Fire Department didn’t have anything to report, either.
‘I’m knocking on wood here, but we’ve had absolutely nothing ? not a thing,? said Fire Chief Pete Scholz on Thursday morning. ‘No accidents. No slip-and-falls. Nothing. We’ll see how the day goes, but up until this point, it’s been quiet.?
The same was true over to the east.
‘Nothing out of the ordinary,? said Addison Fire Chief Jerry Morawski. ‘We just had one medical (call during which) we had a little issue trying to get up their driveway yesterday evening. Other than that, I haven’t had anything ? no power lines down, nothing.?
Morawski noted the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department has handled a few calls involving vehicles that ran off the road, but none of them involved any injuries.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Patterson, commander of the Oxford Twp. substation, indicated his deputies handled three vehicular accidents out of the nearly 80 that the OCSD dealt with county-wide between Dec. 26-27. Two were related to slippery road conditions, while the third involved a driver avoiding another car.
Don Brantley, superintendent of the Oxford Village Department of Public Works (DPW), reported that he and three of his employees were out plowing and salting from 2-7 p.m. Dec. 26 and again from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 27.
‘Everything went real well,? he said.
Brantley indicated the DPW spread approximately 20 tons of salt, which is ‘about average for a storm.?
The only ones who could probably complain about this big snow are Oxford students. This winter storm most likely would have closed school, but with the kids already out on Christmas vacation, it looks like they got cheated out of a snow day.
Cheer up, there’s still a lot of winter left.
