Modetz Funeral Home: helping families in their time of need

As The Modetz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Silverbell Chapel celebrates its five year anniversary, the owners John and Mary Modetz would like to thank the community for giving them the opportunity to be of service to them.
They are also very proud of the wonderful staff they have in place to assist them in taking care of the many families who call .
‘A lot of funeral homes have sold their names to conglomerates,? John Modetz says. ‘We’re really proud of being family owned.?
In fact, all three of John and Mary’s children, Daniel, Scott and Holly, are active in the business, making it truly a family commitment.
Modetz Funeral Homes features gracious facilities in all three of their locations in Orion, Rochester and Waterford, but the Silverbell Chapel is ‘extra special,? according to John, because they built it from the ground-up.
Modetz Funeral Homes will help guide a family through all of the difficult decisions they have to make. They offer both burial and cremation assistance. They have a grief support group, ‘Horizons? which meets in downtown Rochester, as well as a grief counselor who is available to meet with anyone who would like to talk with her.
‘We truly care about our families,? Mary adds. ‘That comes before anything else we do here.?
With the recent trend of people pre-arranging and pre-paying for their funerals, they have a person on their staff dedicated to helping people through that process.
Modetz services all religions, and once, John says, they had five different faith services being held at the same time. They can also accommodate any size service.
According to John, their largest room can hold 300 people, and while it’s large, it’s a very elegant and welcoming space. Modetz has a spacious lounge, with complimentary refreshments, where families can eat and guests can visit.
It’s the Modetz? intent to do everything they can to ease a family through the difficult time of losing a loved one. Their approach to business and people is best explained by a saying they have on display ? ‘It’s a rare person who can take care of hearts while also taking care of business.?
In fact, the families that they care for become such an important part of their family that Modetz honors them every year with their ‘Christmas Memorial Tree? located in the lobby of the funeral home, as well as a Memorial Service. Each bulb on that tree represents a loved one we have served. Families are invited to come during the holidays to collect their bulb. Last year’s tree featured 142 bulbs.
‘It’s our way of remembering those we have served,? Mary explains.
