Located inside Tom’s Hardware at 558 S. Lapeer Road, Mazza’s new 3,700-square-foot space offers car buffs and backyard mechanics all the auto parts, tools and accessories necessary to keep their vehicles looking good and running like a Swiss watch.
‘Hardware customers and auto parts customers are pretty much one in the same kind of people ? do-it-yourself kind of people,? said co-owner Jeff Mazza.
Founded in 1977 in Waterford, Mazza Auto Parts now has four stores, each specializing in something different.
Clarkston specializes in custom paints, auto body supplies and high performance parts.
Ortonville’s the place to go when dealing with tractors, snow plows and farm equipment.
The main store in Waterford has a complete machine shop and on-site repair facility. Powder coating and welding services are offered.
Oxford will specialize in items for street rods.
‘There’s a lot of street-rodders out here in Oxford,? said store manager Gary Dowlan, who’s been building street rods from ‘the ground up? for about 20 years and working for Mazza for 27 years, most of them at the Clarkston location.
‘Gary’s got a good following,? Mazza noted.
In addition to their specialties, all four stores carry a wide variety of ‘everyday auto parts.?
The Waterford store has more than $1 million worth of inventory in stock, the largest selection in Oakland County.
‘It’s as big as most warehouses,? Mazza said. ‘There’s not a whole lot we won’t have between four stores.?
Whatever one store doesn’t have, another will.
And thanks to Mazza Auto Parts? fleet of delivery trucks, most of the time a customer can get the part he or she needs later that same day, often within the hour.
‘We go back and forth all the time between all the stores,? Mazza said. ‘A lot of these other places say they’ll have it for you tomorrow. We’ve found over the years that people can’t wait for parts. Most people, when their car breaks down, they can’t wait another day.?
Mazza Auto Parts delivers many parts to local shops like Complete Auto Repair and Fix-N-Go.
‘We can do just about anything,? Mazza said.
So far, things are going well for the new Oxford store and Mazza foresees a bright future.
‘We think it’s going to work out good for us,? he said.
Mazza Auto Parts is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The store is closed on Sundays, but that could change in the future depending on customer demand.
