Oxford and Addison voters followed the rest of the 46th District by selecting incumbent Jim Marleau as the Republican candidate for the Michigan State House of Representatives.
Marleau won the Aug. 8 primary with a total of 4,284 votes, beating challengers Dan Myslakowski who garnered 1,445 votes and Thomas Poulin who came in third with 1,377 votes.
In Oxford, Marleau received 675 votes, Poulin 254 and Myslakowski 188. Addison voters cast 319 ballots for Marleau while Myslakowski and Poulin received 107 and 101, respectively.
Marleau will face Democratic challenger Bill Pearson, of Oxford, in November.
At this time, it appears voters in the two townships also mirrored the rest of the state by selecting Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard as the Republican candidate to face incumbent Debbie Stabenow (D-Lansing) in the U.S. Senate race.
Oxford voters cast 839 ballots for Bouchard and 370 for his opponent Keith Butler. In Addison, Bouchard beat Butler 414-200.
Although he ran unopposed in his primary, Oakland County Commissioner Bill Patterson (R-Oxford) garnered a total 3,036 votes in the 1st District with 1,091 coming from Oxford and 496 out of Addison.
Patterson will square off against Democratic challenger Madalyn Miller, of Brandon Township, on Nov. 7.
As usual, both townships saw many more Republican than Democrat voters in the primary.
In Oxford, 1,247 people voted Republican versus the 465 who voted Democratic.
A total of 1,780 (or 13.18 percent) of Oxford’s 13,504 registered voters participated in yesterday’s election.
In Addison, 636 people voted Republican while 175 voted Democratic.
A total of 852 (or 18 percent) of Addison’s 4,734 registered voters cast a ballot in the election.
