Marijuana found in car of driver who left crash

A 35-year-old Oxford man could be facing multiple charges after leaving the scene of an accident Saturday.
The man was apprehended by an Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy on Barr Road at Apache Ct. after fleeing the scene of a crash at Lakeville Road and Bay Pointe Drive.
According to the sheriff’s report, the suspect was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger westbound on Lakeville Road when he rear-ended a 1999 Honda Odyssey, driven by a 45-year-old Leonard woman, waiting to make a left-turn onto Bay Pointe Drive, entrance to the Oxford Lakes subdivision.
Following the accident, the suspect headed south into the Oxford Lakes subdivision and exited onto Drahner Road heading east, according to Oxford Village Officer Thad Lambiris.
The suspect was later spotted by a sheriff’s deputy heading south on Barr Road at a high rate of speed.
After the deputy stopped him, he observed the suspect’s ‘speech was slow and slurred? and his hand ‘appeared to be shaking uncontrollably upon approach.?
‘When asked simple questions the driver appeared confused and unable to answer clearly,? the report stated.
He told the deputy he was on Dequindre Road.
Lambiris said two half-smoked marijuana joints were found in the vehicle.
‘They took him over to POH for a blood draw (to see if he was) driving under the influence of narcotics,? according to Oxford Village Sgt. Mike Solwold. ‘We have to wait for the blood results to come back in order to go for a warrant on that.?
The suspect was cited by village police for leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana and driving under the influence of narcotics.
Lambiris said warrants will be sought on all four citations.
After the suspect was processed at the village station, he was released pending investigation and blood results.
