Oxford’s varsity girls softball team began its season last week with two losses.
Waterford Kettering beat the ladies 9-0 and 10-9 in a doubleheader.
Sophomore Chelsea Kessler, sophomore Corinne Luxton and senior Nicole Laidlaw each went 1 for 3 in the first game.
Coach Sue Roeher said her team ‘gave away too many extra outs? in game one.
The ladies had a much better showing in the second game making it a close one.
Roeher said the team was down 4-0 when it fought its way back in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game.
The team was down 7-4 going in the bottom of the fifth inning, but managed to score four runs and take an 8-7 lead.
However, two key throwing errors made by Oxford players in the top of the eighth inning gave Waterford Kettering the go-ahead run for a 10-9 win.
Freshman Allie Laidlaw went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Freshman Alyssa Hurtado went 2 for 4 and scored one run.
Senior Lauren LaCroix went 1 for 3 with one run scored and 2 RBIs.
Overall, Roeher said it was ‘nice to have some game time under our belt before spring break.?
