All those hours of pulling, planting, pruning and painting paid off for the owners of nine Oxford Village properties.
Six residential properties, two commercial buildings and one municipal property were honored last week at the 15th Annual Village of Oxford Beautification Awards Program.
‘We can hold our heads high for what you folks do in serving our community,? said Joe Bullen, chairman of the village’s Beautification Commission, which was founded in 1992.
Winners were selected based on their property’s aesthetic contributions ? landscaping, upkeep, repairs, improvements ? toward the village’s overall appearance.
Each winner was presented a stunning professional photograph of their property courtesy of Johnston Photography in downtown Oxford.
Residential honorees included Jose and Rosemary Rivera (496 Sunset Blvd.), Douglas and Laurie Allen (67 Pontiac St.), Michael and Pamela Cloutier (480 Sunset Blvd.), John and Donna Bossardet (29 Moyer St.), Richard and Donna DeLong (638 Baypointe Dr.) and Leona Hurd (48 W. Burdick St.)
‘My husband (Russell) is responsible for this beautiful planting,? said Hurd, referring to the lush flowers, plants and shrubs which surround her quaint home. ‘He passed away five months ago.?
Commercial honorees included Oxford Family Chiropractic (5 N. Washington St.) and Chuck Schneider (113 N. Washington St.)
‘It’s our pleasure,? said Schneider, who’s won seven beautification awards over the years.
The Oxford Fire Dept. was honored as well for Station #1 (96 N. Washington St.). ‘Now the guys can stop cuttin? the grass,? joked Capt. Kurt Fechter, representing the fire department.
A total of 80 village properties were nominated this year by a special committee consisting of residents Connie Miller, Terry Frank, Julie Langley and Jan Burns.
