Homestyle buffet offers a little something to suit every taste

A new all-you-can-eat homestyle buffet in the Oxford Mills shopping center is leaving both stomachs and wallets feeling satisfied.
Homestyle Buffet & Catering, which opened Good Friday, has been very well received by the public, according to owners Scott Lindauer and Angela Wright, both lifelong residents of Orion.
‘We have not been disappointed at all since we opened our doors,? said Wright, who noted they had more than 300 people walk through the door before they even opened to inquire about the new eatery.
Capable of seating 175 patrons, the restaurant features a wide variety of foods, all of which are prepared from scratch to suit a menu that changes daily.
‘Today, I put out Mexican,? said Lindauer, who has 20 years experience in the restaurant business. ‘Tomorrow might be Italian. The next day we might do a coney bar.?
Three buffet tables ? salad, homestyle food and dessert ? are kept hot and filled at all times.
A fourth table holds more homestyle food during the week, but during the dinner hours on Friday through Sunday, it becomes a gourmet bar featuring succulent dishes like crab legs, calamari and steamed mussels.
‘We want to make sure we appeal to everybody in here,? Wright said.
Every night there’s something different cooking in the ‘showcase kitchen,? a food prep area visible to everyone in the dining room. Lindauer said he’ll be making different daily specials in there ranging from White Castle-style sliders to chicken quesadillas.
On weekends, the buffet will feature something special like carving stations or all-you-can-eat-steak nights, Lindauer noted.
But don’t worry, the buffet will always be stocked with those old-fashioned comfort foods people count on.
‘Of course, we’ll have our staple foods, which would be the fried chicken, the macaroni and cheese, the mashed potatoes,? Lindauer said.
‘Whatever you go home and cook, that’s what we’re doing here ? only you have somebody else cooking it and washing your dishes for you,? Wright said.
Lunch buffets are served Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dinner buffets are served from 5-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 4-8 p.m. Sunday. Breakfast are served Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
‘We needed a buffet out here,? said Lindauer, a 1986 graduate of Lake Orion High School.
‘If you look, the only buffets are in Pontiac or out in Flint,? said Wright, a 1994 LOHS graduate. ‘Lake Orion and Oxford have nothing like this.?
To make life easier for those on a budget, all kids age 5 and under eat free while senior citizens are given a hefty 20 percent discount.
Adult lunches are $7.99 while dinners are $10.99 during the week and $13.99 Friday through Sunday.
Kid lunches (ages 6-12) are $4.99 while dinners are $6.99 during the week and $7.99 Friday through Sunday.
The weekend breakfast buffet is $8.49 for adults and $5.49 for kids 6-12.
Carry-outs are available.
Both on and off-site catering services are available for any event (birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, corporate parties, etc.) with a minimum of 10 people for as low as $6.95 per person. Events can be catered inside the restaurant’s spacious banquet room or at someone’s home. The banquet room can accommodate a maximum of 60 people.
