Dedicating a dream

Singing, dancing, prayers and ice cream were all part of the celebration as Christ the King Church dedicated its new 18,427-square-foot Family Life Center Sunday.
The $3.8 million multipurpose facility will be used for everything including weekly worship services, sporting events, youth activities, concerts, theater productions, banquets and wedding receptions.
Standing on the stage before a crowd of hundreds of church members and guests, Senior Pastor Bob Holt said finally getting to this point was more of a ‘spiritual journey? than a mere building project.
‘Over the past 10 years, we have planned and proposed and prepared and promised and persevered and pinched our pennies,? he said. ‘We’ve paid fees, boy, have we paid fees. It’s not cheap to build a building.?
Holt extended to ‘each and every one who calls Christ the King Church their home? his ‘appreciation for your faithfulness and your support and your perseverance to see this dream become a reality.?
‘So many people have worked so long, so hard to raise funds to build this facility,? Holt noted. ‘We live in a community with a real mixture of incomes. We don’t have a lot of wealthy people. But the people in this church joined together and worked tirelessly to make this happen.?
‘People have sacrificed in a time when the economy is difficult . . . and we don’t take that for granted, not for a moment,? Holt explained. ‘We know how needful it is to have every penny today for your own family. For them to give that is just incredible.?
Holt noted how even the Children’s Ministry, led by Bruce McRae, held four major events ‘to do their part? to raise money.
‘Our children alone raised over $3,000 for this building,? he said.
