Crowd gets stewed on St. Pat’s

A bunch of people got stewed in downtown Oxford on St. Patrick’s Day.
While most of them had only one or two, others went over the legal limit, enjoying three or more.
Around 100 bowls and cups of piping hot Irish stew were served during the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Stew Stroll? held in a tent behind Centennial Park.
‘We had a really good turnout,? said Amy Alder, the chamber’s executive director, noting the group made about $360. ‘I do think we’re going to hold it again next year.?
Six chamber members ? Kalloway’s, Red Knapp’s, White Horse Inn, Oxford Tap, Boulder Pointe and The Gourmet Concept ? provided a variety of Irish stews. Those attending the stroll voted the White Horse Inn’s offering as the best.
Local businesses? response to the event was overwhelmingly positive, according to Alder.
‘They felt it was really good exposure having all those people coming through (during the children’s treasure hunt),? she said.
About 70 kids plus parents visited 26 downtown stores collecting bags filled with Irish-themed trinkets and gold coins.
‘Almost every business downtown wanted to be a part of it,? Alder noted. ‘I would say thanks to all of our sponsors, but there were so many, I can’t list them all.?
