An Oxford couple got a nice Christmas present from the Downtown Development Authority as they won a combined $375 to spend locally.
Ryan McCafferty, a 2006 graduate of Oxford High School, was the top prize winner in the DDA’s Main Street Merry Money contest last month. He earned a cool $250.
Although he hasn’t decided exactly where and how he’ll spend his winnings, McCafferty said he’ll use some of the money to take his girlfriend, Karly Goodson, to the movies at the Oxford 7 Theater.
Goodson, a 2005 OHS graduate, won $125 worth of her own Merry Money.
She ‘definitely? plans to take her mother and sister for manicures at ReGina Paul Salons. Movies at the Oxford 7 and meals at Red Knapp’s American Grill are also in her future.
In order to enter the Main Street Merry Money drawing, contestants had to get their entry forms stamped by a total of 12 downtown businesses.
Two stamps had to come from each of the village’s five shopping areas ? downtown’s four quadrants plus the Oxford Marketplace.
It was up to each contestant to choose which businesses gave them their final two stamps.
Goodson said she and McCafferty used the Merry Money contest as an opportunity to visit businesses they had never been in before or were curious about. ‘It was our first time in Ink & Paper so that was kind of fun,? she said. ‘I didn’t even know we had a quilt store.?
Goodson was grateful to Debbie Meyers, co-owner of Sweet and Savory Bake Shop, for encouraging them to enter the DDA contest.
Lake Orion resident Sue Albert was the other Merry Money winner. She received $125. total of 12 downtown businesses.
