Four parcels of Oxford Village-owned land south of Dayton St. and west of Pleasant St. will be the subject of a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 public hearing.
Officials are considering having the 3.125 acres of vacant public property developed into a combination of affordable housing for senior citizens and park/recreational area.
But first the village council wants to hear what residents think of the idea.
‘Before we solicit proposals, we’d like to get input from residents living in that area ? what they would like to see, what issues or concerns they may have,? said village Manager Joe Young. ‘Also, let them know what’s happening.?
Young said the village is planning to solicit proposals from private developers regarding the potential building of affordable senior (or assisted living) housing on the village property, which could either be leased or sold. Selling the land would require a vote of village residents.
‘We do have a need for senior housing in our village,? Young said. ‘There are very few units here.?
In fact, the only housing in the village specifically dedicated for senior citizens are the 10 units located off N. Washington St. known as Oxford Square.
Although he’s still researching the issue, Young said when three of the four parcels were donated to the village in the 1970s there was ‘some commitment or intention of using (the land) for senior(-related) purposes.?
Young said the village also wishes to develop a portion of the acreage to meet the ‘park and recreational needs of the (surrounding) neighborhood and Polly Ann Trail.?
Three of the four parcels directly border the Polly Ann Trail on two sides.
