NOTA looks at charging for rides

In order to avoid taking vehicles off the road next year, the North Oakland Transportation Authority (NOTA) is considering doing something it’s never done before ? charging for rides. ‘We don’t want to cut our service; we want to maintain our service,? said NOTA Director Lynn Gustafson. Right now, NOTA’s riders ? which consist of […]

Village accepts $345K offer to buyout AT&T lease

A deal that will make Oxford Village’s water fund much more liquid was approved 4-1 by council last week. Council accepted a proposal from Black Dot Capital & Real Estate Group, based in Mission Viejo, California, to buyout the village’s existing lease agreement with AT&T Wireless for the cellular service antenna it has located high […]

Polly Ann part of proposed Belle Isle-to-Wisconsin trail

Physically active folks are used to traveling the Polly Ann Trail to get around Oxford, Addison and Orion townships. But imagine being able to hop on the local trail and hike or bike as far north as the Wisconsin border or as far south as Detroit. That’s what Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder proposed during a […]

OES LEGO team heading to state tournament

The team’s name is ‘Technical Difficulties,? but that’s the last thing it experienced as these Oxford Elementary students earned a spot in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) state championships. On Saturday, the team placed in the top 10 (out of 35 teams) at a qualifying tournament held in Freeland. ‘They did phenomenally well,? said Julie […]

Petitioners seek outdoor seating; village already allows it

There seems to be a rather large number of folks in Oxford who are under the impression that outdoor seating is not allowed in front of downtown restaurants. Well, it’s simply not true, and village officials want people to know it. ‘There’s some requirements they may have to meet, but they’re all allowed to do […]

Rezoning request boils down to future flexibility

A company doesn’t manage to stay in business for 107 years without keeping an eye toward the future. That’s exactly what’s behind the M.D. Hubbard Spring Company’s request to rezone its 595 S. Lapeer Rd. property from general commercial (C-2) to light industrial (I-1). The Oxford Township Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on […]

DA kids learn what local govt. does

Second-graders from Daniel Axford Elementary toured local government facilities last week to learn what services they provide to residents. They visited the village police department, fire department, public library, parks and recreation, and Oxford Elementary. The kids did everything from walking through an ambulance to standing inside a real jail cell.

The real lesson

It was fun photographing the second-graders from Daniel Axford Elementary as they toured local government facilities last week (see Page 4). They were there to learn what government does. Now that they know, could they please tell the rest of us? Ba-dum-bum-CHING! Thank you. Thank you. Don’t forget to try the veal. But seriously folks, […]

Smiles of the Week

Christmas came early to Clear Lake and Daniel Axford as the elementary schools played host to fun holiday activities Saturday morning. Parents and kids got to eat a delicious family breakfast, visit with Santa Claus, shop for cool gifts and make eye-catching holiday decorations to adorn their homes. A jolly good time was had by […]

Here’s my list, Santa Claus!

Following Saturday’s Christmas parade through downtown Oxford, the kiddies lined up in Centennial Park to tell the one and only Santa Claus what they hoped to see under the tree and in their stockings.
