All 29 administrators in the Lake Orion Schools district will take a compensation reduction for the 2016-17 school year.
The announcement was made Wednesday, May 25 at the school board meeting, and the board will take action this month.
The wage concessions will save the district approximately $92,000.
“This is our attempt to help the district to manage its current budget issue,” Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Rick Arnett said. “We’re just appreciative our administrators are willing to help the district.”
The district is in the process of eliminating a near-$1.9 million shortfall before the next school year.
All administrators including the superintendent, high school principal, middle school principals, elementary principals, athletic directors, high school associate principals, middle school assistant principals, the director of special education, the learning options supervisor and the director of curriculum will be affected.
Administrators who were eligible to move up one step on the salary schedule next year will not receive a step increment, and will additionally be given a one percent wage concession.
Individuals who are on the top of the salary schedule who are no longer eligible to receive a step will be given a two percent wage concession.
For example, Superintendent Marion Ginopolis’ base salary of approximately $157,539 will be reduced by two percent, or about $3,150.
“We are very proud of our leadership for stepping up to help the district during these challenging financial times,” Ginopolis said.
The district is in negotiations with the rest of the union groups to determine any further concessions.
