It was an evening of patriotic music and thanksgiving to those who donned a uniform in defense of our great nation.
The Oxford Middle School Music Department hosted its annual ‘Americana Concert: A Tribute to Those Who Served? Friday night in honor of Veterans Day.
Peforming were the seventh and eighth grade choirs and sixth grade Wildcat Singers along with the seventh and eighth grade Thunder Drummers.
From the ‘Star Spangled Banner? and ‘Proud to Be an American? to ‘The White Cliffs of Dover? and ‘Your a Grand Old Flag,? stirring patriotic tunes filled the silent air of Oxford High School’s Performing Arts Center.
Kelly Senger, a 1992 OHS graduate who gives voice lessons locally, performed two touching solos ? ‘I’ll Be Seeing You? and ‘We Will Be a Shelter for Each Other.?
Jim Parkhurst, past commander of Oxford American Legion Post 108, served as the event’s guest speaker.
Veterans in the audience were publicly recognized as they were asked to stand when the service hymn representing their branch of the Armed Forces was proudly played.
The concert was a fitting tribute to all those brave citizens who honorably answered freedom’s clarion call to duty.
