Members of the Oxford Lions Club visited Oxford Middle School and Lakeville Elementary last week to do some heavy-lifting.
They collected boxes and boxes filled to the brim with canned goods and other nonperishable food items to be distributed to local families and individuals in need as part of the club’s annual Christmas basket program.
Oxford is so very fortunate to have groups like the Lions Club whose sole purpose is to improve the lives of others, from the visually and hearing impaired to those struggling to survive with limited financial means.
The food will be paired with donated toys and new clothing, then distributed to 28 individuals, mostly senior citizens, and 24 families with children.
As they do every year, the Lions helped finance their Christmas basket program with Goodfellow Newspaper sales. Armed with 800 copies of The Oxford Leader, club members hit the streets and raised approximately $3,300 on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
Thank you Oxford Lions Club for helping to spread the true spirit of Christmas and reminding us all what real charity is all about.
