Oxford Leader Editor C.J. Carnacchio was recently recognized with another four awards for his writing and photography skills as part of the Michigan Press Association’s 2012 Better Newspaper Contest (BNC).
The 36-year-old Oxford resident earned second place in the Picture Story category for his photo page depicting the 2012 Spring Fair for Daniel Axford and Oxford elementaries.
Of this entry, the judges wrote, ‘This photo page exudes everything that community is about. Great composition, good info for each picture. I’m sure this paper sold well as the photos capture what is obviously a fun event for the Oxford community.?
Carnacchio won second place in the News Picture category for his Feb. 8, 2012 photo entitled, ‘Stop that turkey!? The photo (shown right) featured a Michigan Department of Natural Resources officer’s fruitless attempts to capture a rogue wild turkey who had been causing all sorts of trouble along Seymour Lake Rd.
The judges wrote, ‘Love this photo. The combination of consternation in the face of the wildlife officer and the bemusement of the driver is priceless. The shot is perfectly framed.?
Another second place finish was earned by Carnacchio in the Feature Picture category for his May 25, 2011 photo entitled, ‘Puppy Love.?
It featured a smiling man getting lovingly licked by a happy dog at a K-9 Stray Rescue League fund-raiser. Of this photo, the judges wrote, ‘Love the way the photographer caught the dog’s tongue and the man’s face.?
In the Editorial Writing category, Carnacchio took home a third place award.
For the first time ever, the Oxford Leader competed in the BNC as part of a much larger circulation class.
The Leader went up against weekly newspapers with circulations ranging from 10,000 to 24,999.
Since joining the Leader in May 1999, Carnacchio has earned a grand total of 59 awards for his writing and photography from the Michigan Press Association, the Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Newspaper Association.
