Twp. OKs 2013 tax rates, budgets

Last week, Oxford Township officials approved the various tax rates and budgets for the 2013 fiscal year, which begins Jan. 1.
As it has since the 1990s, the board once again kept the township’s operating tax at 0.95 mill. That helps support the general fund, which was approved at $2.056 million.
Officials set the fire department’s operating and Advance Life Support (ALS) taxes at 1.5 mills and 1 mill, respectively. The fire/EMS budget was approved at $1.16 million, while the ALS budget was set at $1.13 million.
The police budget, which funds the township’s contract with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept., was approved at $1.94 million to be supported by a tax of 2.9152 mills.
That millage rate could go up if township voters approve a 1-mill increase for police services on the Nov. 6 ballot.
Officials approved levying a 0.8538-mill tax to support parks and recreation’s $1.071 million budget and a 1.3982-mill tax to finance the public library’s $1.039 million budget.
A 1.62-mill rate was set so residents can continue paying on the library/fire bond debt.
