Raising money to help little kids live their dreams typically gives folks a heartwarming feeling.
But in the case of eight Oxford Jr. Wildcats (OJW) coaches, it was more like heartburn.
As part of a fund-raiser for the popular youth football program, these coaches participated in a hot dog eating contest at the 24th Street Sports Tavern in downtown Oxford.
It was the freshman coaches versus the junior varsity coaches as the two, four-man teams went head to head ? and bun to bun.
Each team was given a heaping tray of 20 hot dogs to consume within 10 minutes.
But these weren’t your average size wieners. No, sir.
These were jumbo dogs ? much thicker and meatier than the standard frankfurter everyone knows and loves.
In the end, the JV coaches ? which included Matt Wandrie, Ken Barrott, Joe Viviano and Scott Darrin ? claimed the trophy after devouring 17.5 dogs.
The freshman coaches ? which included Aaron Carpenter, Jeff Walter, Buck Myer and Paul Schroeder ? downed 15 dogs.
It’s interesting to note that following the contest, Rolaids? stock price experienced a sharp increase.
All in all, the event raised about $1,570 for the OJW program.
