Downtown gallery exhibit features Oxford images

For those folks who love art and love the town of Oxford, ArtCapsule Gallery & Frame has got a special multimedia exhibit running now through Saturday, Nov. 26.
‘We challenged local artists to showcase what Oxford means to them,? said Robb Leland, proprietor of the 5 S. Washington St. gallery. ‘This whole show is an experiment, so we’ll see what happens.?
The show is called ‘Oxford through Lens, Brush & Pen? and it features five paintings and one photograph from area artists Jim Fetter, Don Wieland, Robert Martin, Janet Almstad Davison, Ken Taylor and Margaret Culver.
‘They all heard the call and they responded,? Leland said. ‘You’ll see some street scenes. You’ll see a local lake. You’ll see some horses. They’re all basically different themes that represent Oxford for the artist. People can see these iconic images of these streets that they know and love, and businesses that they frequent.?
Leland noted this is ArtCapsule’s ‘first call for work from artists.?
‘Everything up until now has been solo shows or working with the Romeo Guild of Art for the Thumb Area Show,? he said. ‘This is a way to say thank you to Oxford for how great the community has been in supporting us.?
Visitors who wish own a piece of Oxford art can either purchase the original (prices range from $175 to $1,485, which includes framing) or order a ‘giclee? on paper (under $100) or on canvas (under $200). Giclee prices do not include framing.
A giclee is a print generated from a high-resolution digital scan and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas and photobase paper, according to www.gicleeprint.net. The giclee printing process is reputed to provide better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.
‘I’m confident that anyone who appreciates Oxford would be thrilled to see this original work in the gallery or take a piece of that home with them in the form of an affordable giclee,? Leland said. ‘For those folks who love having dinner at Red Knapp’s, why not stop at the ArtCapsule and buy a $95 print of the restaurant.?
‘We want to make art accessible to the community,? he noted.
Digital images of all the Oxford-theme pieces will be posted on the gallery’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/artcapsule).
Social media visitors are invited to view all the works and vote for the one they like most as part of an on-line contest.
‘We’d love to have them tell us which image is their favorite,? Leland said.
If all goes well, this won’t be ArtCapsule’s only show featuring Oxford in all its artistic splendor.
‘I’d love to do shows like this seasonally, capturing winter and fall in Oxford,? Leland said. ‘What about all the holiday lighting? That’s a whole other opportunity.?
