Students in the Extended Day Program at Daniel Axford and Oxford elementaries are helping to save their little corner of the world one tree at a time.
Between Jan. 15 and April 1, these kids raised a total of $340 for the Michigan Arbor Day Alliance’s ‘Go Green Youth Challenge? ? the highest amount generated by any pre-K through 12th grade students in the entire state.
As a reward, the students were given 15 beautiful shade trees. Two were planted at Daniel Axford, three at OES and the other 10 were placed in Seymour Lake Township Park.
Students also attended the State Arbor Day Celebration on April 29 at Potter Park Zoo in Lansing.
The Go Green Youth Challenge gets Michigan youth involved in environmental stewardship, community development and service through planting trees.
Statewide, this year’s challenge raised a total $20,850 for tree planting in Michigan.
