Storytime in Centennial Park

Tales of dragons and knights abounded in downtown Oxford’s Centennial Park Tuesday afternoon as part of the library’s ‘Storytime in the Park? series.
‘We just wanted to be somewhere different and do some out-reach type things,? said Shae Smith, head of the library’s Youth Services.
Every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. from now through July 29 people of all ages can come downtown to hear stories and sing songs.
‘People are invited to bring their lunch and a blanket to sit on,? Smith said. ‘We usually read two or three stories and sing a couple songs.?
Afterwards, the kids and adults enjoy free cookies made by the Sweet & Savory Bake Shop and paid for by the Oxford DDA.
‘We’ve had a lot of good feedback from patrons that they like this,? she said. ‘It’s fun to come to the park and listen to stories.?
Smith said the program is good for downtown merchants as some participants buy a coffee or lunch while there. ‘Maybe it will help some of the businesses,? she said.
‘Storytime in the Park? is a free program open to all. No registration is required. ? CJC
