Remember: No left turns at Market/M-24

Some Oxford residents have expressed concerns about traffic making left-turns at the intersection of Market St. and M-24.
This is just a friendly reminder that north and southbound M-24 traffic is prohibited from making left-turns here.
East and westbound traffic on Market St. is also not allowed to turn left onto M-24. It is, however, permitted to go straight across.
Signs indicating left-turns are prohibited are clearly visible in all directions.
Making an illegal left-turn at this intersection could result in a traffic fine of $100 to $110 and two points on your driving record.
‘We’ve written tickets over the last year,? said Oakland County Sheriff Lt. Larry Perry, commander of the Oxford Twp. substation. ‘Unfortunately, I don’t have the staffing levels to dedicate somebody to sit there and watch the intersection.?
In Perry’s opinion, creating an intersection there was a bad idea to begin with from a safety standpoint. ‘They never should have put the intersection there,? he said. ‘Somebody’s going to get hurt there. Eventually, that’s what’s going to happen.?
Perry fears the likelihood of a serious accident occurring at this intersection will increase when the shopping centers on the west side of M-24 are built.
