Store to offer discounted high-end clothing

It seems like virtually everyone’s always saying downtown Oxford needs a clothing store. Well, it’s finally got one.
Located in the historic Meriam Building at 10 N. Washington St. is The Red Tag Store, the latest addition to downtown’s diverse collection of shops.
‘We’re a retail location that basically sells high-end clothing at a low, discounted rate,? said Metamora resident David Peterson, who co-owns the store with his wife, Theresa.
With a Grand Opening scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 5, the store will primarily feature brand-new, name-brand, high-quality clothing for men, women and children.
‘I’m bringing you the exact same product as a large department store, but with a savings of at least 50 percent off MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price),? Peterson said. ‘The larger stores have a huge overhead and I don’t.?
How does he do it?
‘I buy in volume and turn around and sell it at a discounted rate,? said Peterson, who has a warehouse in Auburn Hills. ‘Whenever I run across a great deal on something, I buy it, then pass the savings on to the general public.?
For instance, right now Peterson has 1,000 women’s swim suits, which will all be sold at ‘very low prices.?
‘I have more inventory than I have space,? he said.
But The Red Tag Store won’t just offer clothing. There will also be home decor, lighting, exercise equipment, whatever merchandise Peterson can find a deal on.
‘I can pretty much get any consumer good at a very low, discounted rate,? Peterson said. ‘There’s a market for everything.?
Where does Peterson find all these great deals? ‘That’s the million dollar question,? he said. ‘If I told you that, everybody in Oxford would know.?
Given the state’s troubled economy, Peterson said his new store’s perfect for those who want quality products, but are on a tight budget.
‘Today’s economy, as we all know, isn’t doing the best,? he said. ‘People aren’t going to the high-end department stores right now to pay the top dollar price. There you buy a $50 shirt. Come to my store and get two shirts for $50.?
Peterson, who was born and raised in Lake Orion, has been watching Oxford for quite a while and knew it was the perfect place for his store.
‘The demographics in Oxford are spectacular. It’s a growing community,? he said. ‘There really isn’t another store like this in the area. Oxford’s always needed a downtown clothing store.?
Peterson is planning to open two other Red Tag Store locations in Royal Oak and Bloomfield Hills.
