Members of the public are encouraged to attend the 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 Oxford Village Council meeting to voice their concerns about M-24 traffic and pedestrian safety issues directly to representatives from the Michigan Department of Transportation.
‘I’d like to see this room full,? said village Councilman Tony Albensi, noting the more people that attend, the more ‘pressure? can be applied to MDOT.
Topping the list of discussion items at this meeting will be the village’s desire to have additional traffic signals installed downtown, particularly at the intersections of Dennison/M-24/Stanton and Broadway/M-24.
Albensi said placing a signal at Dennison/M-24/Stanton and Center/Davison (north of Burdick) would ‘connect our east and west corridors? and give the downtown a more ‘pedestrian-friendly environment.?
‘That’s important if we want to bring in new business, bring in people to our downtown,? he said.
People are walking around downtown Rochester ‘all the time? partly because the area has a traffic signal on ‘every single block,? according to Albensi.
In addition to residents, Albensi would like to see downtown merchants and property owners attend as well because their support could be ‘quite influential.?
‘Their opinion should count whether they live here or not,? he said. ‘They’re the ones that are going to be affected by this more than most.?
The meeting will take place in the village council chambers located at 22 W. Burdick St. For more information call (248) 628-2543.
