Youth Assistance honors 60 helpful kids

Oxford-Addison Youth Assistance held its Annual Youth Recognition Ceremony May 17 at Christ the King Church on W. Drahner Road.
Sixty youths from across the Oxford school district were honored for their good deeds, volunteer spirit and genuine kindness to others. Here they all are broken down by school.
Oxford Middle School
Brandon Barber ? Brandon is often helping out at Lakeville Elementary. He helps set up banquets at his church, and has matured a great deal this past year.
Alexis Basinger ? Alexis has volunteered to help Oxford Addison Youth Assistance during a
critical time and deadline to get mailings out for the annual breakfast and the youth recognition program. She stayed until the complete job was done, doing so willingly and cheerfully.
Ryan Reason ? Ryan has volunteered to mentor a student with special needs around the school. He helps him make friends, peer tutors and is an advocate for this student. Additionally, he helps by peer tutoring students in math.
Alana Whims ? Alana helps at a day care across from her home, is wonderful with the small children and babies. Alana is part of Military Kids
club, helps to pack packages for service men and women. She is very helpful with older neighbors in her subdivision, on yardwork and groceries.
Lakeville Elementary
Emily Cleland ? Emily is involved in Safety Patrol, Sudent Council, Morning Announcements, Recycling. She exhibits a strong work ethic and a great attitude, always willing to help and often takes the initiative to see if there is anything else she can do.
Leonard Elementary
Austin Kreshock ? Austin does the right thing, even when no one is looking. When there is a new student in his classroom, he reaches out to make sure they feel welcome. If a student is struggling with an assignment, he offers help.
Oxford High School
Ryan Ayers, William Buday, Travis Collier, Adam Cross, Peter Elezaj, Adam Fischer, Logan Fulk, Zach Gunnels, Corey Hrischuk, Alex, Ignagni, Cody Kovacic Tim Marney, Adam McLoskey, Ben McLoskey, Brian Simpson, David Simpson, Brian Soutar, Elliot Wicker, Matt Zaun, Justin Ziegelbaur ? A six-year-old cousin of one of the players on the Oxford High School Varsity Hockey team was terminally ill with cancer. She was returning from out-of-state treatment and the boys wanted her to have Christmas lights. They went to the family’s home and put up lights and decorations for the girl to enjoy. The group also packed food boxes for the holidays at Gleaner’s Food Bank.
Angela Alexander ? Angela volunteers at the Problem Pregnancy Center approximately once a month for 2 hours and has done so consistently for almost 2 years. Angela also volunteered at the K-9 Stray Rescue for two months during her sophomore year.
Taylor Aubin ? Over the last four years Taylor has assisted the Oxford/Orion FISH Pantry. During March Taylor
assisted in the distribution of over 10,000 pounds of food to the area’s hungry. During the four years that Taylor has worked with FISH, she logged more than
400 hours of community service.
Courtney Caldwell ? Courtney shows above-average maturity. She provides positive peer influence in every setting. She is helpful in discussions, in prayer and clean-up at her church. She is respectful to peers and adults and helps everyone feel valued. Courtney is an emerging young leader.
Renee Carroll ? Over the last four years Renee has assisted the Oxford/Orion FISH Pantry. During March Renee
assisted in the distribution of over 10,000 pounds of food to the area’s hungry. During the four years that Renee has worked with FISH, she logged more than
400 hours of community service.
Kyle Cummings ? Kyle has been indispensible in the reading fluency lab. He is responsible and arrives on time. He conducts the lab capably and correctly. Because of him, some of the children have successfully graduated out of the reading lab and are better readers.
Jennifer Thompson ? Jennifer has volunteered to help the Oxford-Addison
Youth Assistance during critical times of need for mailings when the group needed help needing a deadline. She came in with short notice and stayed until the job was done. She is a pleasant and hardworking
volunteer.
Clear Lake Elementary
Claire Agar ? Claire is an enthusiastic Peer Mediator. She shares her knowledge of mediation as a mentor to our new mediators. Claire is a true peacemaker in our school.
Danielle Black ? Danielle is a Peer Mediator in Clear Lake. She helps keep Clear Lake peaceful by helping students resolve differences through mediation, mentors new mediators and attends monthly before school trainings. She also attends Bingo visits to Bortz Health Care in Orion, where she provides and serves treats and helps with Bingo.
Courtney Bocquet ? Courtney is a Peer Mediator in Clear Lake Elementary. She helps students learn how to resolve their differences in peaceful ways. She attends before school meetings once a month to practice and improve her skills, as well as serves as a mentor to new mediators.
Collin Campbell ? Collin is a Peer Mediator at our school. He comes early for monthly meetings to work on his skills to become a better mediator. He also mentors a new mediator, teaching him how to use his mediation skills.
Aaron Christoff ? Aaron has been working with individual first graders twice weekly during his recess period this year. He has assisted them with their classwork. Aaron has been conscientious with the responsibility.
Christian Corrion ? Christian is an active Peer Mediator. He mentors new mediators also as well as serving as a Bingo volunteer at Bortz Health Care in Orion, and as a fundraiser for Oxford K-9 Stray Rescue.
Mackenzie Deck ? Mackenzie is a Peer Mediator who is always looking for ways to make our team better. She is active and caring. She is a positive role model to all and mentors new mediators in addition to her own mediator responsibilities.
Erin Devlin ? Erin is a very kind and caring Peer Mediator. She is always looking for ways to help others get along and be friends. She mentors new mediators to show them how to do the same.
Leah Farmer ? Leah loves to help other people solve problems and be friends again. She is a wonderful mediator at Clear Lake. She is also a dedicated mentor to new mediators.
Michael Glass ? Michael has been a Peer Mediator for our school. He is also helping to mentor new mediators.
Maura Green ? Maura is a very dedicated mediator who cares about others and wants to show them how to talk over and solve their problems. She enjoys mentoring new mediators and teaching them the art of mediation.
Adam Kemp ? Adam is a Peer Mediator in Clear Lake. He helps students resolve disagreements through the use of mediation. Adam is a mentor to new mediators, sharing his knowledge and showing positive leadership.
Sydney Langan ? Sydney helped in the Clear Lake reading fluency lab, helping second grade girls. She picks three girls up from their class, gets them started on their reading work, and monitors their progress for the half-hour sessions, twice a week.
Kelsey Lobos ? Kelsey is an outstanding Peer Mediator. She is caring and kind to all. She mentors new mediators, has adopted a grandparent at Bortz Health Care in Orion, works at Bingo games at Bortz, and also is active in raising funds for K-9 Stray Rescue.
Madison Maier ? Madison serves as a Peer Mediator. She is always ready to lead a mediation or spend time mentoring new mediators. She is a dedicated mediator who is caring and kind to all.
Wesley Maskill ? Wesley has been an awesome Peer Mediator in Clear Lake. He attends before school meetings to improve his skill as well as works to mentor new mediators.
Samantha Medici ? Samantha has helped keep Clear Lake peaceful through her work as a Peer Mediator. She not only mediates, she mentors ? sharing her skill and dedication with new mediators. She also does projects to support K-9 Stray Rescue and her class? adopted grandparents at Bortz Helth Care in Orion.
Michael Neff ? Michael is a hard working Peer Mediator, attending every extra practice meeting and project. He leads by example. He’s a mentor to new mediators. He is a friend to all.
Elizabeth Schonfeld ? Elizabeth is a Peer Mediator and so much more! She is dedicated to her team, an amazing role model to others, caring, and kind to all. She mentors, works to support K-9 Stray Rescue and her class? adopted grandparents at Bortz Health Care in Orion.
Ginger Wissman ? Ginger is a positive leader in Clear Lake. She is a dedicated Peer Mediator. She helps students learn how to solve their problems using mediation and she mentors new mediators, helping them learn their skills.
Zack Woloszyk ? Zack has served his school as a Peer Mediator, mentor and leader. He is dedicated to improving his skill and does so by attending before school meetings.

Daniel Axford Elementary
McKenzie Chaisson ? At Thanksgiving, Mckenzie and her family packaged meals for the needy in Pontiac, also helping to deliver the meals. McKenzie also had ten inches of her hair cut off for Locks of Love in February.
Zarek Embrey ? Zarek has learned to work with others as part of a community and has been demonstrating random acts of kindness with other students in his classroom.
Kaleb Parris ? Kaleb helped two new students feel welcome by being their buddy, showing them around the school, introducing them to other kids. He gave them a tour of all the rooms, played with them at recess, and explained routines.
Joseph Wise ? Joseph is extremely kind and thoughtful of others, always willing to help. He is very sensitive of other people’s feelings and knows when, and is willing, to give a hug. He’s extremely generous and likes to share.
Home School
Karleigh Jenko ? Karleigh leads music and drama for all the kids who attends her vacation bible school. She participates and leads other dramas as well. She volunteers for fund raising dinners regularly, providing child care.
Kelsey Jenko ? Kelsey has volunteered at fund raising dinners, counsels younger youth, works on her music ability, sharing with others. She also has served on two mission trips ? one in West Virginia and one in Central America.
Sean Sullivan and Todd Sullivan ? Sean and Todd aided and assisted the Oxford/Orion FISH Pantry. In March, they assisted in the distribution of over 10,000 pounds of food to the hungry in the area. They have each logged over 200 hours of community service with FISH, weighing food items at check-out, helping maintain stock, and other tasks.
