Fairy godmother, glass slippers, be back by midnight, blah, blah, blah. It’s old news. Been there, done that.
Bet you haven’t heard the story of ‘Prince DA.?
Teachers at Daniel Axford Elementary performed this unique play for the entire student body April 4 as a reward for all their hard work during March is Reading Month.
Chad Boyd played Prince DA, a skinny, bald guy who constantly gets teased about his looks by his brother (played by Brad Bigelow), who has plenty of hair to spare and bears a striking resemblance to Elvis.
While his brother was always partying the night away with all the lovely princesses at the Palace Disco, Prince DA stayed home and cleaned while wearing his big fuzzy slippers.
‘If he couldn’t have hair on his head, at least he could have fuzzy feet,? said narrator Kelli Talicska.
Then one Saturday night, a silly fairy (played by Pam Hayes) fell down the chimney and started granting Prince DA’s wishes.
Next thing you know, the prince got a new set of wheels (a scooter), a snazzy suit and a head full of hair ? we’re talking a 1970s style giant afro.
With all his wishes fulfilled, Prince DA heads to the disco to dance the night away.
It’s there that he spots the woman of his dreams, the lovely Princess Ponytail (played by Rita Upshur).
Frightened by his hairiness, Princess Ponytail starts to run away from the prince. All of the sudden the clock strikes midnight and Prince DA reverts back to his original state ? bald as a cue ball.
Embarrassed by his looks, Prince DA runs away leaving one of his big fuzzy slippers behind.
Once Princess Ponytail saw he was not a hairy monster, but instead a handsome and brave, bald man, she sets off to find the slipper’s owner.
Long story short, she finds him and they live happily ever after.
As for Prince DA’s big-haired brother, the fairy gave him a guitar and he moved to Graceland.
