It looks like Christine Burns is movin’ on up — up north, that is.
On Friday, Burns, who serves as Oxford Village’s current clerk/treasurer/assistant manager, told this reporter she’ll probably be submitting her resignation with two-weeks notice to council on Monday or sooner.
She’s taking the job as city manager in Cedar Springs, after reviewing and “tweaking” a copy of a proposed employment contract with the municipality, which she described as “very fair.”
On March 27, the Cedar Springs City Council convened a nine-minute meeting and voted unanimously to offer the manager position to Burns, according to The Grand Rapids Press.
Located in Kent County, 20 minutes north of Grand Rapids, Cedar Springs has a population of more than 3,000 people living in a 1.3-square-mile area.
The Cedar Springs council is expected to ratify her employment contract at its April 12 meeting.
It’s proposed that Burns be paid $62,133 per year plus benefits. She’s also going to receive a $300 per month car allowance.
Burns has been employed with the village since August 2005.
Prior to that, she worked in Clare, where she was born and raised, for 14 years, serving as assistant to the city manager, clerk and deputy treasurer.
