Faith and begorrah! Did ye know the Chamber of Commerce is puttin? on a St. Patrick’s Day celebration in downtown Oxford? Sure enough, it’s true.
Alas, there won’t be any pots of gold, but there will be pots of stew ? and plenty of them.
‘We’re even going to have a live leprechaun passing out balloons to the kids,? said Amy Alder, the chamber’s executive director.
The fun begins at the stroke of 2 o’clock Saturday inside a tent behind Centennial Park.
There, Red Knapp’s American Grill, Kalloway’s Restaurant and Pub, White Horse Inn, Oxford Tap and Boulder Pointe will be serving up a variety of piping hot stews including the traditional mix of lamb and Guinness.
Sweet & Savory Bake Shop will have plenty of fresh cookies available while Achatz will be passing out samples of its famous pies.
A treasure hunt for the wee ones (kids, not leprechauns) will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Instead of searching the ends of rainbows, participants will visit approximately 10 downtown businesses.
‘We’ll have like a little map or something for them to follow,? Alder said.
Kids will collect bags of assorted coins from each merchant along Washington Street.
‘Whoever has the most gold coins wins four Pistons tickets,? Alder said. Other prizes will also be available.
The entire event will run until 6 p.m. leaving plenty of time to stop off at the pub for a quick pint.
