First-graders at Daniel Axford Elementary spent some time last week building their own houses.
Students in Pam Collins and Lynette Weller’s classes continued a 25-year tradition at the school by making little gingerbread houses out of empty milk cartons and graham crackers.
‘It was one of their favorite days of the year,? Collins said. ‘They looked forward to it and they had a ball.?
Using vanilla frosting as glue, students stuck graham crackers to the outiside of the cartons, forming four walls and a roof.
Then they frosted the outside of the crackers so they could decorate the houses with pieces of liquorice, jelly beans and other assorted candies.
A lot of the candy mysteriously disappeared before it could be put on the houses.
‘They eat as much making it as they end up putting on top of their gingerbread houses,? Weller said.
