Lady Cats score back-to-back wins

Oxford’s girls varsity basketball team scored its first victory of the season last week beating Birmingham Groves 52-44. Joelle Harms was the top scorer with 17 points. Danielle Esman contributed 8 points to the win.
‘We got off to a really bad start,? said Coach Al Poynter. ‘We were down 14 to 3 at the end of the first quarter.?
‘Then the rest of the game, we outscored them 49-30,? Poynter noted. ‘Once we got going, we really got going. But it took a quarter for that to happen.?
‘We’ve got to avoid those slow starts. When we do, I think we’re going to be in really good shape.?
On Tuesday, the Lady Cats traveled to Richmond and beat the Blue Devils 53-29. Senior Stacey Sutphin was the leading scorer with 14 points. The team is now 2-1.
The next game is at home against the Clio Mustangs 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7.
