Twp. approves $225K park land purchase

Seymour Lake Park is going to increase by 14 acres thanks to a couple of purchase agreements unanimously approved by Oxford Township officials Dec. 14.
Located adjacent to the east side of the park’s southern end, the 5-acre and 9-acre parcels will be purchased by the parks and recreation department for $80,357 and $144,643 respectively.
Parks Director Ron Davis said the land, which is flat and contains alfalfa, will be used for soccer practice fields and as ‘additional open park land and green space.?
No permanent soccer goals or bleachers will be constructed on the property, Davis said.
Less than an acre of the property will be developed into a parking area, which will not be accessible from Coats Rd.
A five-year loan from Oxford Bank is enabling the parks and recreation department to make the purchase.
Davis expects to close on the properties in January.
